The community-based eye bank was founded in 1965 to meet the growing need for corneal tissue in San Antonio and surrounding areas. San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas with a population of more than one million residents
The eye bank has become a pioneer and leader in providing eye banking services to patients, surgeons, hospitals, and corneal transplant centers throughout South Texas. As a public health agency, the eye bank reaches out to the community with innovative programs designed to increase awareness about the importance and need for donated eye and cornea tissues for transplantation and research.
The San Antonio Eye Bank is dedicated to achieving the donation of eye and corneal tissues for those in need of transplants and to providing a sense of purpose and comfort to those families we serve.
